The cliché lines from a poem recited during Nutrition Month celebrations must’ve been the springboard behind the Department of Education’s concept of Gulayan sa Paaralan.
This project is a school and community partnership which aims to educate and raise the awareness of the youngsters about the significance of going green despite the limited spaces like that of a school garden. It teaches them how to care for mother nature, as well as to give importance to eating healthy and balanced foods.
Here in Baclaran National High School, the Gulayan sa Paaralan project does not only educate the students – it feeds them too! For years now, it serves as a local source for the feeding program of the institution.
When asked about the secrets of why the BNHS’ Gulayan sa Paaralan is something to be proud of, Mr. Romeo Arenas, the project coordinator reiterated, “Yearly, nakakatanggap tayo ng awards dahil maganda ang sistema ng ating programa at talaga namang malulusog ang ating mga gulay.
Even during this pandemic, the Gulayan sa Paaralan continues to produce goods which are being enjoyed by school staff who still comes to school every day.
